Cousins Subs exploring new Midwest locations

New Wisconsin stores would be in the Madison area

Menomonee Falls-based Cousins Subs has partnered with a real estate data firm to develop a strategy for future sites across the Midwest.

“We want to grow out from Wisconsin,” said Joe Ferguson, vice president of development for Cousins Subs. “We’re looking at Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois and possibly Indiana.”

There are about 100 Cousins locations in Wisconsin and Arizona, about 25 percent are corporate stores and 75 percent are franchisee-operated.

Ferguson said Cousins may add a few locations in Wisconsin, outside of the Milwaukee area. If so, those stores would be near Madison or Janesville.

“Then we could move south, into Northern Illinois,” he said.

Fort Worth, Texas-based Buxon will work with Cousins through winter and should have a site selection plan by spring, Ferguson said.

A new corporate store takes about three to six months to open; franchisee locations take about nine months, Ferguson said.
