Concordia University Wisconsin on Tuesday held a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the start of construction of a baseball stadium at the campus at 12800 N. Lake Shore Dr. in Mequon.
Construction of the ballpark is expected by next spring.
The stadium will have a synthetic turf field, similar to the university’s football, soccer and softball fields. The synthetic fields are able to drain stormwater quickly, the university says.
“This spring the team has only been able to practice on the current field twice,” said Val Keiper, head coach of the Concordia baseball team. “Preparing the field to play next season will be reduced to simply pulling the tarp off the mound.”
