The Milwaukee Common Council approved a rezoning request for the proposed 26-story, 35-unit condo tower that Milwaukee-based New Land Enterprises LLP plans to build behind the historic Goll Mansion at 1550 N. Prospect Ave., on the city’s east side. The $65 million project would include a $1 million restoration of the 110-year-old mansion, which would be connected to the new condo tower and would serve as the entry-way to the tower. The project has generated some controversy as some neighbors have complained that the condo tower would block their views of the lake. Because neighbors had filed a petition against the project, the plan needed approval of a super majority of the Common Council, who voted 13-1 in favor. Tim Gokhman, director of sales and marketing for New Land, said the company needs to sell 16 to 17 of the condos to obtain financing for the project. New Land plans to begin marketing the project to condo buyers in a few weeks, he said.
