Working beyond normal retirement age has its advantages
Many Americans are staying in the workforce past their normal retirement age. According to the U.S. Social Security Administration, more than 30 percent of individuals between the ages of 70 and 74 reported income from earnings in 2010 (the latest year data is available). Among those ages 65 to 69, nearly 49 percent reported employment income.
Back in the saddle
After a childhood of horseback riding, Jessica Franklin rekindled her passion for riding three years ago and, in May, was crowned a champion in the Run O' The Mill Hunter Jumper Show at the Washington County Fair Park and Conference Center, located between Jackson and West Bend.
PAVE Milwaukee moves office to Matthews Building
PAVE Milwaukee, an education-focused nonprofit, gained 1,000 square feet as it relocated its offices to the Matthews Building on Wisconsin Avenue in June.
The organization, which works to build strong boards for area partner schools, moved from a 3,000-square-foot space in the Germania Building at 135 W. Wells St. in downtown Milwaukee to a 4,000-square-foot space in the Matthews Building, located at 301 W. Wisconsin Ave., also in downtown Milwaukee.
The move was prompted by Vangard Group LLC's plans to convert the Germania Building into 70 “affordable” apartments.
PAVE has leased office space in the Germania Building for eight years, according to Michelle Burmeister, communications director at PAVE. The organization agreed to vacate the building by mid-summer.
Its new space was formerly occupied by the Greater Milwaukee Committee, according to Burmeister.
The extra square footage will equip PAVE with more space and flexibility to accommodate the organization's interns and student staff members while also giving it the room to grow, Burmeister said.
The new site's central downtown location is also advantageous as it gives PAVE's program staffers “quick and easy access to every corner of the city,” Burmeister said.
PAVE currently collaborates with more than 50 Milwaukee schools and operates with six full-time and two part-time staff members.
