The United Steelworkers (USW) today said that members of Local 1343 in South Milwaukee rejected a proposed six-year labor agreement with Caterpillar Inc. and that the union will resume negotiations with the company for a new contract.

Despite defense cutbacks Oshkosh Corp. doubles Q2 profit

Despite U.S. Defense Department spending cutbacks Oshkosh Corp. today reported a surge in second quarter earnings. The company posted fiscal second quarter net income of $85.4 million, or 96 cents per diluted share, nearly twice the $42.8 million, or 47 cents per diluted share, in net income for the previous fiscal second quarter.

Cudahy manufacturer acquires Rhode Island firm

Global diversified manufacturer Handy & Harman Ltd. announced that Lucas-Milhaupt Inc., an indirect wholly owned subsidiary based in Cudahy, has acquired the assets of Wolverine Joining Technologies, a wholly owned subsidiary of Wolverine Tube.
