BizTimes Media is heading into the final week of the nomination process for the inaugural BizTimes Media Nonprofit Excellence Awards.

As a membership organization committed to supporting and promoting effective philanthropy in Wisconsin, the Donors Forum of Wisconsin (DFW) provides resources that help funders perform more effectively and efficiently. DFW provides a network for grantmakers (i.e. funders) from across the state. As Wisconsin's premier resource in philanthropy, DFW is committed to advancing and promoting the philanthropic sector.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture plans to award up to $200 million in competitive grants that will fund new employment and training programs intended to help low-income individuals and families find jobs and increase their earnings. The grant recipients are scheduled to be announced in February of 2015.

More and more employers are choosing to conduct background checks on potential hires, including checks for criminal and credit history. There are a number of legitimate reasons for doing so, including compliance regulations in certain industries, concern about liability for negligent hiring, and simply a desire to ensure that employers are selecting the right person for the job. Employers must be mindful, however, that administrative agencies at both the state and federal levels are scrutinizing these practices like never before, and that many states (like Wisconsin) have laws on the books that regulate how employers are permitted to use background check information.

City Year Milwaukee is introducing its corps services to Bay View Middle and High School this fall, expanding its presence to nine schools under Milwaukee Public Schools.
