Bring your holiday leftovers to Elite Fitness locations

Elite Fitness & Racquet Clubs want to help people jumpstart their New Year fitness resolutions by giving them a place to bring leftover holiday cookies, candy and other snacks, in exchange for a free fitness counseling session.

"There are a couple of motivations for doing this," said David Bradshaw, vice president of operations of the clubs. "There is so much stuff that comes into your home, and because it’s the holidays people kind of justify eating it. Even after the holidays are over that stuff tends to hang around but because people feel guilty getting rid of it, we just thought we’d give people a place to bring it, and help them set some fitness goals for the New Year."

All prepackaged food brought to Elite’s four locations will be donated to a local food pantry, and any exposed or open food will be disposed of, Bradshaw said.

In exchange for the food, donors will receive a free fitness counseling session from an Elite personal fitness coach, and non-members also will be entered into a drawing to receive a three-month family membership.

Elite will also host free "Return to Fitness" Fridays in February 2009, when all four Elite locations invite the public to come in at no cost to use their top-of-the-line fitness equipment and participate in a wide variety of fitness classes including yoga, pilates, body-stepping and spin.

The Elite Fitness & Racquet Club locations include: Highlander Elite, 13825 W. Burleigh Rd., Brookfield; Bluemound Elite, 600 N. Barker Rd, Brookfield; North Shore Elite, 5750 N. Glen Park Rd., Glendale; and Mequon Elite at 11616 N. Port Washington Road.
