There are a lot of benefits that come with running your own business, but for Lori Zindl ,the best part is creating the kind of company people want to work for.

Zindl is the owner of OS inc. The Pewaukee-based firm provides billing and staffing services in the health care industry. Business has boomed for OS inc. as the huge baby boomer population gets older and health care providers are looking to cut costs, Zindl says. The company earned more than $5 million in 2011 and is projected to earn $6.5 million in 2012.

OS inc. employees benefit from Zindl’s “work hard, play hard,” outlook which includes flex-time scheduling options, a wellness program, on-site exercise classes, and other fun activities like kickball.

“It builds a lot of camaraderie,” said Zindl of the programs. “We have fun here. In the end we are able to provide a really good service for our clients.”

Zindl has worked in bill collection since her college days. As an employee with a keen eye for accuracy working on commission Zindl says she was consistently the highest paid bill collector in the firm.

But the company let her go when she tried to curb her heavy travel schedule to begin raising a family. Zindl went to work for another firm but the money she made couldn’t make up for the lack of integrity she says she witnessed on the job there.

With years of experience already behind her, Zindl decided to launch a business of her own. For a year she worked out of her husband’s office with a single client under her belt. Then a collection agency nearby closed its doors, putting Zindl in position to acquire 80 new customers.

Since then OS inc. has expanded services to include document imaging and consulting. In 2011, OS inc. launched “efficientC,” a medical billing software program.
