The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. announced that it plans to remodel its Boston Store at Southridge Mall in Greendale.
“We need to update our store there,” said Bon-Ton spokeswoman Christine Hojnacki. “We’re touching everything within the store. We’re going to be knocking down walls, making it a more open floor plan.”
The remodeling of the Boston Store, located on the west side of the mall, will occur at the same time that Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group Inc. will do a total renovation of the mall and when a new Macy’s department store will be built in the former Younkers store space at the south end of the mall.
The Boston Store project is expected to begin in October and be complete in August of 2012. The project will reallocate space and realign departments in the store. The shoe department will expand to more than double its current size. New showcases and lighting will be added in the cosmetics department. New fashions and new vendors will be added to the merchandise assortment. The restrooms will be updated and new fitting rooms will be built.
“It’s really going to be a different experience for our customers,” Hojnacki said.
Bon-Ton said is also renovating its Brookfield Square and Mayfair Mall stores, which will include major expansions to the shoe department at both stores. Those projects began in March and will be completed next month. The Brookfield Square and Mayfair Mall Boston Store projects are not as extensive as the Southridge project and consist primarily of the shoe department expansions, said Bon-Ton spokeswoman Mary Kerr.
“The expansion of our shoe departments…will enable us to offer the largest and best shoe assortment in Milwaukee,” said Bud Bergren, president and chief executive officer of Bon-Ton. “Milwaukee continues to be an excellent market for us and we believe the remodeling of our Southridge location and the upgrades at Brookfield (Square) and Mayfair will enhance the total shopping experience for our customers.”
Bon-Ton has corporate headquarters in Milwaukee and York, Pa.
