BMO Harris Bank launches card-free ATM technology

BMO Harris Bank has announced a new technology is now available at 275 of its Wisconsin ATMs. The Mobile Cash technology allows customers to make ATM withdrawals without removing their wallets from their pockets, saving time and increasing the security of the transaction.

The Canadian bank, which has its U.S. headquarters in Chicago, launched the technology at a total of 750 of its 1,300 U.S. ATMs. 400 are in Illinois, 40 are in Indiana, 20 are in Arizona and about 20 are in Minneapolis. The bank also plans to add enable another 150 ATMs in its network for Mobile Cash by June.

Customers can use the BMO Harris Bank mobile app to locate Mobile Cash-enabled ATMs. The machines are enabled with a QR-based mobile technology to allow customers to make withdrawals using the app alone.

“Smartphones are quickly becoming the singular device that people use to help manage their life,” said Connie Stefankiewicz, head of North American Channel Strategy and Solutions, BMO Financial Group. “BMO Harris is continuing to invest significantly in technology that is designed to address consumers’ evolving preferences.

“Expectations are increasing among consumers in terms of the digital tools and services industries are offering. With personal finances, we know our customers want the ability to take care of multiple financial needs from their smartphone.”
