Hyatt Regency Milwaukee

Hyatt Regency Milwaukee hotel has earned the Travel Green Wisconsin certification. Travel Green Wisconsin is a voluntary certification program that recognizes tourism businesses for reducing their environmental footprint through eco-friendly practices.

Hyatt Regency Milwaukee is one of only six hotels in Milwaukee to achieve this honor. The hotel scored 61 points towards the certification for highlighting green practices including use of organic and local food products, a linen reuse program where linens are changed daily by request only, installation of all energy efficient compact fluorescents, and newspapers provided upon request only.

To achieve certification, applicants must earn a minimum of 30 points from a checklist of basic requirements covering a wide range of “green” practices, including: waste reduction, reuse and recycling; energy efficiency, water conservation and wastewater management; air quality; wildlife and landscape; transportation; purchasing; and local community benefits.

The Wisconsin Environmental Initiative, an independent third party, then certifies Travel Green Wisconsin applicants.

Vollrath Associates

Milwaukee-based Vollrath Associates Inc. recently received one platinum award and one gold award in the 2010 MarCom Creative Awards competition. In partnership with its clients’ communications teams, Vollrath Associates won a platinum award for the Badger Meter “Measure by Measure” 2009 Annual Report and a gold award for Veolia Environmental Services North America’s EcoSpeak, a nationally distributed quarterly employee newsletter.

The MarCom Creative Awards is an international awards program that recognizes outstanding achievement by marketing and communications professionals. In the 2010 competition, there were almost 5,000 entries from throughout the United States and several foreign countries. The awards, which are judged by industry professionals and previous award recipients, are considered to be benchmarks for the industry.

David J. Frank Landscaping

David J. Frank Landscape Contracting of Germantown was recently awarded three national honors for excellence in exterior services. The company earned two Environmental Improvement Awards from the Professional Landcare Network, and an additional one from Snow Magazine for industry leadership.

A Merit Award for Environmental Improvement was presented to landscape designer Jane Frank for her work on a residential project that features a traditional rose garden, tea pavilion, a granite fountain with fiber optic lighting and a three seasons room with a fireplace. A Distinction Award was given to graduate horticulturist Jerry Stoffield for landscape maintenance at Alverno College.

The Snow Magazine Leadership Award is given to only one snow management professional each year.

Innovative Signs Inc.

Waukesha-based Innovative Signs was recently awarded two awards from the Wisconsin Sign Association. The annual awards competition allows members to submit sign designs and projects into 16 different categories. Innovative Signs was awarded first place for designs in the vehicle graphics and non-illuminated categories. The company earned the awards for its non-illuminated sign design for Vino Cappuccino in Brookfield and for its full vehicle car wrap designed for Lucky Taco’s mini cooper. Award winners were chosen by a panel of independent sign professionals or vendors. Innovative Signs has been honored with either a first or second place award every year since 2005.
