The United Community Center (UCC) has been recognized by the NAMM Foundation with a Best Communities for Music Education designation (BCME). The BCME highlights school districts that have exceptionally maintained music in the schools’ curriculum. Each district completes a BCME survey about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, facilities and other aspects of the music program. The UCC operates the Bruce-Guadalupe Community School, a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee charter school for grades K4 through 8th grade. More than 300 students at Bruce Guadalupe Community School take music education, which includes the Middle School Jazz Band and a partnership with the Latino Arts Strings award-winning in-school and after-school program. The BCME designation supports the NAMM Foundation’s music advocacy efforts. More than 300 districts across the country were recognized this year.
