Supreme Court decision means Obamacare remains intact for employers

Following the U.S. Supreme Court's June 25 ruling to uphold the Affordable Care Act, employers should know that the law, otherwise known as Obamacare, is here to stay in its present form.

Proposed south side school promises excellent education, improved community

If all goes according to one local business leader’s plans, Milwaukee’s south side could have a new $50 million to $60 million K-12 school in 2017.

Augustine Prep, a choice or charter school that would ultimately have 2,000 students, is the vision of Gus Ramirez, executive chairman of Waukesha-based HUSCO International Inc.

“We view this as transformational,” Ramirez said. “We think our student graduates will transform Milwaukee from the contributions they make. It will be a high quality school in an area that is unattractive. It will change the whole ambiance of that community.”

Augustine Prep has been percolating in Ramirez’s mind for the last three or four years, as he believes Milwaukee is in need of more high quality education.

Food safety ‘from A to Z’

Between recalls and the natural foods movement, as well as other trends, the food and beverage industry is seeing many new concerning issues today.

As a result, law firm Michael Best & Friedrich LLP's Milwaukee office recently presented an event on “What Every Food and Beverage Company Must Know About Issues in Food Safety – From 'A' to 'Z.'”

“The integrity of our food and beverage supply is top of mind with most of the consuming public,” said attorney Paul Benson, who led the presentation. “There was a time when I could very easily go to a conference or speak to a group and say with 100 percent certainty, and not be challenged, that the U.S. food supply is the safest and best in the world. If I made that claim today, I would likely be challenged.”

CCB Technology is an under-the-radar success story

Like many fledging companies in their early days, CCB Technology started in the basement of Chris and Patti Booth's house.

Fast forward 24 years later, and the technology provider has approximately 60 employees in two Racine locations; serves 40,000 clients nationwide; and forecasts climbing from $34 million in annual revenue last year to $40 million in 2015.
