ATU moves MCTS vote to Monday

Amalgamated Transit Union Local 998 members will now vote on the latest Milwaukee County Transit System contract proposal on Monday, Oct. 5.bus illustration

Union members originally were to vote today, but ATU leaders have rescheduled the vote “to give every member adequate time to make an informed decision,” ATU said in a release.

ATU leaders have asked the union’s members to vote “no” on the new contract, which it says would allow lower wage, part-time workers to work full-time hours without benefits.

The union will hold an information session for its members at 7 p.m. tonight at ATU Hall, 734 N. 26th St. in Milwaukee.

According to ATU, “members have expressed grave dissatisfaction” with the language in the newest version of the contract. The union and MCTS have been in negotiations for several months, which have resulted in a work stoppage and several stalemates. MCTS presented this latest version of its contract proposal on Friday.
