AT&T announced it plans to expand the availability of ultra-fast internet service, through AT&T GigaPower, to parts of 38 additional metro areas, including the Milwaukee area.

AT&T GigaPower is now available in 20 of the nation’s largest metro areas.

“We’re excited to expand our ultra-fast Internet service to residents and small businesses in the Milwaukee area,” said Scott T. VanderSanden, president of AT&T Wisconsin. “This investment in our fastest Internet speeds will not only help small businesses compete in a global economy, it will also offer customers the high-speed connectivity so many demand in today’s video centric world.”

“High-speed Internet connections are improving virtually every aspect of our lives – from education to health care to employment opportunities to public safety,” said Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett. “Today’s announcement that AT&T plans to offer its ultra-fast fiber network in the Milwaukee area is great news for residents and small businesses alike.”

AT&T says its GigaPower service “gives customers some of the fastest online speeds available anywhere.” Users can download 25 songs in less than a second, a TV show in three seconds or an HD movie in less than 36 seconds, the company says.

Customers on the AT&T GigaPower network in markets eligible for AT&T U-verse TV service can watch and record up to 6 HD programs at the same time, and will be able to record and store more TV shows – up to 900 hours of SD or 330 hours of HD programming
