Apak plans to expand in Racine

Organizations:

Apak Inc., a Mundelein, Ill.-based contract packaging company, plans to purchase and expand its facility in Racine.

Last year the company moved some operations into the 19,000-square-foot former Dynaseal Inc. building at 3801 S. Memorial Dr. in Racine. Apak currently has 12 employees working at the facility.

Apak has significant expansion plans for the building, according to the Racine County Economic Development Corp. The company plans to buy the building and later expand it. Specific expansion plans have not been announced.

“They are looking to expand it probably within the next couple of years,” said Laura Million, business development manager for the RCEDC. There is enough space on the site to double the size of the facility, she said.

The company plans to increase its Racine workforce to 46 employees in the next three years, Million said.

Apak initially contacted RCEDC in mid-2013 searching for land to build a new facility, but soon realized that it needed space quickly and instead decided to occupy an existing building. The company signed a lease with an option to purchase the 3801 S. Memorial Drive building and is now moving forward with the purchase, RCEDC said.
