Anthem and United Hospital System reach new contract agreement

Organizations:

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield has reached a new contract agreement with Kenosha-based United Hospital System that will keep the system’s doctors and facilities in the insurer’s Blue Preferred and Blue Access networks. The new agreement also adds the health system as an in-network provider for Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s Medicare Advantage products.

“We’re pleased to reach a new agreement that allows our members to continue receiving care at United Hospital System at in-network rates and benefit levels,” said John Foley, regional vice president of provider solutions for Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. “The new contract provides fair rates and reimbursement terms for both sides that promote affordability while also enabling United Hospital System to meet community needs. We look forward to continuing to work with them.”

“Our outstanding team of physicians and professional healthcare workers has provided excellent patient care to the clients of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield for many decades,” said Ric Schmidt, president, chief executive officer and general counsel of United Hospital System. “Our new contract agreement will permit us to provide our Anthem patients with a continuity of care clearly in the best interest of all parties. Our patients will continue to be able to see their trusted physicians and receive excellent care at the United Campus of their choice. We look forward to providing many more decades of care to Anthem’s clients as our patients.”

Blue Preferred and Blue Access are Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s broad network offerings in Wisconsin. Blue Preferred (Point of Service) and Blue Access (Preferred Provider Organization) are networks used by many employer-provided health plans. Blue Access is also the network out-of-state Blue Cross and Blue Shield members would use if they receive care in Wisconsin.

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield members who have questions about their provider network or benefits should call the Customer Service number on the back of their membership identification card.
