Acuity reports strong 2014 results

Sheboygan-based property and casualty insurer Acuity has reported it wrote a record $220 million in new business in 2014, driven by $154 million in new commercial premiums.

The insurer gained almost $120 million in total written premium last year, up 10.6 percent over 2013.

The company expects to continue growing in 2015, thanks to forecasted rebounds in trucking and construction, two of its key commercial sectors.

Acuity, which is currently constructing a 240,000-square-foot expansion to its corporate headquarters to make room for growth, has added more than 200 employees over the past 36 months, putting its total at more than 1,000 employees.

“In the past 36 months alone, Acuity added over $400 million to our top-line revenue,” said Acuity president and chief executive officer Ben Salzmann.

“When Acuity grows, everyone wins—our employees, agents, and policyholders,” he said. “We are incredibly thankful to everyone for their effort in helping us achieve another record-setting year, and we look forward to continued growth and success in 2015 and beyond.”

Acuity operates independent agencies in 23 states and has more than $1.2 billion in revenue. It also manages more than $3 billion in assets.
