Two more Milwaukee felons face illegal voting charges, others head to trial

Two more Milwaukeeans face charges of illegally voting in the 2008 election.
The state Department of Justice, acting as a special prosecutor for Milwaukee County, charged both David Lewis and Ramon Martinez of voting while serving penalties for felony convictions,  Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced Tuesday.
Each faces up to 3 years prison and a $10,000 fine, and are due in Milwaukee County Circuit Court for an initial appearance July 26 at 1 p.m.
In addition, Van Hollen announced that a Milwaukee couple charged with double voting in the ’08 election will head to trial after entering not guilty pleas in Milwaukee County court.
Herbert and Suzanne Gunka were charged in March after allegedly casting absentee ballots and voting at their polling location. The charges carry penalties of up to 3 years prison and a $10,000 fine. They are due for a scheduling conference July 21 at  8:30 a.m.
