Supporters of organized labor and immigrant families are expected to be among the tens of thousands of people to attend a May Day Rally to oppose Gov. Scott Walker’s policies in Milwaukee on Sunday, May 1.
Organizers are calling together working people to rally “for the rights of all workers – immigrant and native-born alike. Wisconsin immigrant families, union members, students and their allies in the civil rights, religious and progressive communities.”
The alliance is being brought together in opposition to Walker’s plan to revoke collective bargaining rights from public employees and the Republican-controlled state legislature’s plan to impose a voter I.D. bill in Wisconsin.
Richard Trumka, AFL-CIO president, will be among those participating in a Wisconsin Solidarity March for Immigrant and Worker Rights at 2 p.m., to be followed by a 3 p.m. rally at Veteran’s Park in Milwaukee.
