Acevedo PC Services LLC was recently named the “Business of the Year” by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Wisconsin. Company president Enrique “Rick” Acevedo believes that service on civic boards is not only good for the community, but it is good for his business.
“As a director on the board of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Wisconsin and a commissioner on the board of the Social Development Commission, people often ask me what the benefits are to being elected to these posts. After all, running a small business already takes considerable time.
“If you believe in certain civic organizations, it is a way to chip in and do good work in our community. It is a way to give back and give thanks for all of the good fortune that one has received. It is a way to support local businesses and see that they get a piece of the I-94 reconstruction project, for example. It is a way to save Milwaukee County, to provide directions for our schools, to help the poor and homeless in Milwaukee and to direct how resources and funds are allocated for the betterment of us all.
“It is a way to ensure that the organizations that we serve are properly governed.
“There are many opportunities for business leaders to serve. I believe the Milwaukee Brewers Community Foundation is doing wonderful things in our neighborhoods as are the charity foundations of some of the greatest businesses in our community. How about the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts? They bring great music and shows to Milwaukee and have a very active board. How about the African American Chamber of Commerce in Milwaukee or the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Wisconsin? Please consider volunteering on a board that interests you. Get involved and get connected.”
