Innovation: Specialized Revenue Cycle Management for health care industry
Since 1993, OS Inc. (formerly OutSource, Inc.) has provided revenue cycle management services including consulting, billing, collection and complete cash flow management for clients in the health care industry.
Due to the complexity of rules and regulations in the industry and expected changes in the future, the company invested in the development of a comprehensive proprietary billing and reporting software they called efficientC in August 2009.
According to Lori Zindl, president of OS Inc., there are approximately 17,000 codes used by hospitals and insurance companies to identify various procedures, diseases, treatments and symptoms on medical forms. The number of codes is set to increase to nearly 140,000 with new standards coming down the pipeline.
The efficientC software is pre-loaded with that information, as well as state-specific Medicaid rules and other information, to make identifying errors easier and more efficient.
“They give us real-time feedback on any issues or things that we can improve upon so we get those claims out right the first time and get paid quickly,” said Monica Ricca, vice president of revenue cycle at ProHealth Care.
The company worked with Brookfield-based SysLogic to design and develop the complex software.
“It’s taken a huge amount of time in planning, testing and resources to make this happen,” said Pat Curran, director of technology. “It’s a complicated software, but the work we’ve done has paid off for our clients and customers.”
Today, 20 health care organizations in Wisconsin and Illinois use efficentC to handle all or some portion of their medical billing process.
Zindl plans to expand the company’s client list to additional states in the future.
