The economic slowdown hasn’t affected the growth of limited liability companies (LLC) in Wisconsin, according to the state, which recently released data on 2001 new-business entitites.
The Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions (www.wdfi.org) reports that the number of business formations in the state increased from 20,416 entities in 2000 to 21,982 in 2001. That is just over a 7% increase. A majority of the new businesses last year were created as LLCs.
“For our state to succeed, our state’s businesses must succeed,” Gov. Scott McCallum said. “The increase in LLCs shows the business community shares my belief that Wisconsin is strong and that we will continue to grow and build. I also congratulate the Department of Financial Institutions for making the process of LLC formation easier through electronic filing.”
Wisconsin saw 13,945 new LLCs form in 2001, 2,334 more than year-end 2000. According to DFI numbers, fourth-quarter 2001 also saw an increase in new LLC formation; 3,507 LLCs were filed in October, November and December in 2001. Of those filed, 2,931 were filed electronically through DFI’s online Quickstart LLC and the remaining 576 LLCs were filed by paper.
