What has fueled your company’s growth?

Z2 has grown steadily because we truly are partners with our clients, not just another vendor. 80 percent of our clients have come to us through referrals from other clients. And because we become an integral part of their team we keep our clients for a long time.

What is the biggest obstacle to your company’s growth?

Our biggest obstacle to growth is growing at the right pace. We have seen other agencies fluctuate dramatically in their staffing levels. Our philosophy has always been to find the right talent and keep the right size team so that the owners can be involved on every account.

Do you plan any changes in your company in the upcoming months?

Although our growth is controlled, we have added staff and continue to do so. That means we may be starting to look for additional space or options for expanding our current office.

Who are the business people, locally or nationally, whom you admire? And what traits do those people exhibit that make you admire them?

We admire our clients who are constantly looking to improve, reinvent themselves and stay on the cutting edge. People like Greg Marcus who is taking a hugely successful business and making it his own through new initiatives and innovations. Aaron Jagdfeld of Generac who led the company through its first public offering. Jim Lindenberg for having the foresight to invest in the Milwaukee Wave. Ross Saldarini of Mountain Khakis, for founding an inspired brand and showing people how to enjoy life.

What is the outlook for the business conditions of your industry over the next several months?

We’ve seen signs of improvement so we are optimistic. But it varies by client/industry. Some clients are feeling the recession more than others.

What is your company’s key strategy for rising out of the recession?

Honestly, we have grown during the recession because of who we are – we are a smart, experienced, agile, hungry and efficient agency who delivers top quality brand work at a more competitive rate. We have all our capabilities in house – from designers, writers, researchers, public relations, even our own photo and recording studios – so we can control our costs.
