WISN 12 announces new breaking news reporter

Melinda Davenport will join WISN-12 News’ lineup of anchors this March as the new breaking news anchor on “WISN-12 News This Morning.”

Davenport will work beside reporters Patrick Paolantonio and Marianne Lyles weekdays from 4:30 to 7 a.m. on the breaking news desk at WISN 12 News, a media partner of BizTimes Media.

Her position was previously filled by reporter Jason Newton, who left WISN-12 in December to work for WBAL-TV in Baltimore.

Davenport, a native of Texas, has spent more than two years anchoring at WMUR in Manchester, N.H. a Hearst-owned ABC affiliate. She most recently appeared on the station’s weekday noon newscast and weekend evening newscasts.

“I am honored for the opportunity to be part of such an award-winning team,” Davenport said. “I have tremendous respect for the Hearst Television organization and am proud to continue my career within the company. I feel fortunate to tell the stories of the people of Wisconsin and look forward to working with the incredible morning news team at WISN-12.”

Davenport’s journalism career also has included time reporting for WCAX-TV in Burlington, Vt., and freelance work for The New York Times Company’s online publication.

“Melinda understands our mission to bring viewers relevant information that impacts their daily lives,” said Chris Gegg, news director at WISN-TV. “The ability to clearly deliver breaking news information in our constantly updating world takes experience and talent, and Melinda brings both. She will be a great addition to our morning team.”

Davenport earned her Bachelor’s degree from University of Houston and completed a Master’s degree in Communication at Northeastern University in Boston.
