Event will feature economist from Chicago Federal Reserve, former DOC officials, panel of manufacturers and more
The Wisconsin Business Council will present a symposium that will push for changes the agency says are needed to the state Department of Commerce on Tuesday, Aug. 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the We Energies Public Service Administration Building, 231 W. Michigan Ave., Milwaukee.
The symposium will discuss the recommendations of a Wisconsin Business Council report titled “Be Bold Wisconsin,” that calls for changes to the Department of Commerce that will make the state more competitive and grow its economy. The report has an emphasis on Wisconsin’s manufacturing economy.
The symposium will feature speakers such as;
- William Strauss, Senior Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and an expert on the manufacturing industry;
- Former Wisconsin Department of Commerce Secretary Cory Nettles;
- Former Wisconsin Department of Commerce Secretary Bill McCoshen;
- Representatives from Indiana, which has transitioned its Department of Commerce to a public/private entity;
- A panel of manufacturers from across the state.
“This event offers an opportunity to discuss ways we can make the Department of Commerce more effective, in part by examining changes Indiana has made in recent years,” said Brian Taffora, vice president of government relations and operations for WBC. “In particular, we hope to examine how to retain and create manufacturing jobs in Wisconsin by hearing from representatives from the industry and speakers familiar with the respective Commerce Departments for Wisconsin and other states.”
