William Troy has been named chief executive officer of Milwaukee-based ASQ, a global quality organization.

He replaces CEO Paul Borawski, who has worked in leadership positions at ASQ for 27 years and will retire in May.

Troy was appointed by the board of directors, which pointed to his passion for quality, excellent leadership background and diplomatic and global relationship expertise. He will begin his role on April 21.

“After a complete and exhaustive search, ASQ is indeed fortunate to have Bill join us on our global mission,” said Stephen Hacker, ASQ chair. “As an accomplished leader, Bill brings the skills and practical knowledge we need at this time in our journey.”

Troy recently retired from his role as a lieutenant general in the U.S. Army. He was director of Army staff at the Pentagon, where he managed 20,000 military and civilians as well as the Test and Evaluation Command. Troy also has experience as a senior fellow at Harvard University’s Weatherhead Center for International Affairs.

“My background in leadership and strategy has prepared me well for this challenge in taking ASQ to the next level,” Troy said. “I follow in the footsteps of a leader of enormous insight, influence and integrity — Paul Borawski — and my fervent wish is to build on the foundation he, the ASQ staff and member leaders the world over have built. With that foundation, we will build the global ASQ presence and contribute to solving problems and improving processes and lives throughout the world.”
