Weyco to expand HQ again

Organizations:

Glendale-based Weyco Group Inc., a distributor of men’s shoes, plans to build a 31,850-square-foot building that will connect its main facilities to an 80,150-square-foot warehouse that the company purchased in December. Weyco bought the 80,150-square-foot warehouse building from Clarion Partners for $3.8 million.

Combined, the new building and the building that was purchased in December will add 112,000 square feet of space to Weyco’s headquarters. Once complete, the company’s headquarters will have a total of 1,030,150 square feet of space, including office, warehouse and distribution space.

Construction for the new building will begin this month and is expected to be completed in October. The new building will be designed and built by Opus Development Corp., which has done several building projects for Weyco over the years.

“Weyco has grown quite a bit since we first built its main headquarters building,” said Julie Ledger, vice president and general manager for Opus Development Corp. “This is the fourth major expansion Weyco has made to their headquarters facility to meet the growing needs of the company.”

Opus built a 350,000-square-foot plant for Weyco in 1998 on the former site of the Crown Cork & Seal building in the Estabrook Corporate Center in Glendale. In 2001 Weyco bought a 160,000-square-foot building nearby that Opus had built. In 2003 Opus built a 276,000-square-foot expansion for Weyco that connected the two buildings. Last year Opus built a 52,000-square-foot mezzanine level in the Weyco headquarters.
