Walmart honors military and veterans at State Fair

Organizations:

Walmart of Wisconsin will host its second annual Military and Veterans Recognition Day at the Wisconsin State Fair on Sunday, Aug. 15. Active duty servicemen, service women and military veterans with proper identification will receive free admission to the fair all day. Vouchers for free tickets must be picked up at any of the County Veterans Service Officers Association of Wisconsin offices throughout the state by Friday, Aug. 13. “Offering free State Fair tickets to veterans and active duty personnel is just one way of saying ‘thank you’ to the thousands of veterans and active duty military personnel for the dedication and sacrifices that they and their families have made,” said Lisa Nelson, Walmart’s senior manager of public affairs. “Part of our corporate message includes the words ‘live better.’  Certainly, the contributions made by our troops past and present have helped all of us to do just that.”
State Fair visitors can also enjoy a Veteran’s Museum exhibit, military servicemen dressed in Civil War uniforms performing drills, and a display of military vehicles. Visitors can also sign a Thank You banner that will be sent to troops stationed in Afghanistan. A B2 Bomber flyover will kick off the Veteran’s and Military parade scheduled for 2 p.m.
“We are excited to once again have Walmart sponsor the Military and Veterans Recognition Day at Wisconsin State Fair,” said Kathleen O’Leary, director of marketing and sponsorship for Wisconsin State Fair Park. “It’s a perfect combination, one that partners a celebration that attracts more than 850,000 visitors and Wisconsin’s largest private employer in recognizing past and present Wisconsin members of the military.
