Organizations:

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has appointed Amanda Braun athletic director.

Braun, whose appointment marks the first female leadership role in UWM’s Athletic Department, will return to Wisconsin from Northeastern University in Boston, where she has served as executive senior associate director of athletics.

The Wisconsin native previously held athletic administration positions at UW-Green Bay.

“The strength of Amanda’s accomplishments and her well-rounded experiences definitely stood out among the high-quality candidates seeking this position,” said UWM Chancellor Michael Lovell. “I am pleased that she will be a key member of my executive staff and will provide valuable insight as we position UWM for continued growth. I am confident she will be an excellent leader and work well with our Panther coaches, student-athletes and community.”

Braun entered Northeastern University in 2006 and has been the top administrator to the director of athletics since 2008. She oversees fours sports programs and also manages the athletic department’s $10 million annual operating budget as well as a $10 million annual athletic scholarships budget.

She has also focused on fundraising, athletic capital projects and student-athlete academic compliance during her career at Northeastern.    Braun will take over for current UWM athletic director Andy Geiger beginning May 1. Geiger has been with UWM since May 2012 under a 13-month contract to see the department through transition. He will continue working at UWM through Braun’s start to continue supporting the university’s athletic programs.
