United Way in Waukesha County optimistic about goal

Although United Way in Waukesha County fell short of its $4.75 million campaign goal last year, the organization is on the rebound with a $4.4 million goal for its 2014 campaign.

During United Way in Waukesha County’s 2013 campaign, it raked in just over $4.3 million, which also fell short of its 2012 fundraising results, which totaled about $4.5 million.

“Despite fewer dollars raised in 2013, we continue to call upon and believe in the generosity of our community,” said Jayne Thoma, executive director of United Way in Waukesha County. “We are asking that our corporate and individual supporters prioritize the United Way effort to demonstrate that Waukesha County can respond with generosity when so many need our help.”

Proceeds from the annual campaign will be distributed among the organization’s focus areas of education, income and health and will touch nonprofit agencies and residents in Waukesha County.

The campaign, which runs through Dec. 30, will be chaired by Doug Hastad, president of Carroll University, and Dale Van Dam, executive vice president at M3 Insurance Solutions.

“United Way reaches into literally every corner of this vibrant and diverse community,” Hastad said. “It makes investments designed to strengthen organizations that demonstrate proven results. This practice has served our community well year-in and year-out. It is my hope that we continue to support the United Way to an even larger degree so as to improve the education, income and health of those in need.”

This year’s campaign goal, which represents a 2.1 percent increase over the 2013 fundraising total of about $4.3 million, also builds on United Way in Waukesha County’s long-term hopes, Thoma said.

“We also remain committed to our long-term goal of our community campaign achieving $5 million in future years,” she said. “This is a realistic vision when you look at the potential of corporate and individual giving in Waukesha County.”

United Way of Greater Milwaukee, which has a similar focus, also recently announced its 2014 campaign goal. The nonprofit has its sights set on raising $53.8 million by Dec. 11.
