Industry: Technology and energy solutions and electrical contractor

Innovation: Integrated high-definition televisions in hospitals.

Last year, Brookfield-based Uihlein Electric Company Inc. added high-definition television (HDTV) integration to its existing health care client base in the company’s Technology Solutions division.

The HDTVs are installed in lobbies, nurse areas and in patient rooms. The HDTV technology provides patients with an added service and health care organizations save money by reducing their energy usage.

Uihlein installed the HDTVs at hospitals in the Milwaukee area and plans to expand the services to other primary care, long-term care or any other organization needing patient information transferred.

Established in 1911, Uihlein began as the exclusive electrical contractor to the Schlitz Brewery in Milwaukee. The company now has more than 95 years of experience as an electrical contractor specializing in industrial, commercial, communication/data cabling, and machine wiring applications for businesses.

Uihlein president Tim Rigsby says innovation is part of the company’s corporate culture.

“Each year we charge each group leader to come up products non-traditional to our business,” he said. “It is about finding niche solutions to grow from. It helps us engage with customers to broaden the services for them.”

The HDTV innovation is just one of many to come for the organization.

“At Uihlein Electric our focus is to become the non-traditional, rather than the traditional electrical distributor to bring technology and innovation to the buildings we serve,” Rigsby said. “Looking five, ten, even 30 years from now we want the group to be rebranded with the vision of technology not to be the one defined but to be nimble enough to our customers to bring the innovative to support their needs.”
