Supervalu to lay off 155 in Pleasant Prairie

Supervalu Inc. will lay off 155 employees at its Pleasant Prairie regional office, 8401 W. 102nd St., Suite 300, as part of a national consolidation plan.

The layoffs will begin on May 23 and end by August 22. The company will keep a small local office of sales and marketing staff in Pleasant Prairie, including some current employees, a spokesman said.

The Eden Prairie, Minn.-based grocery chain will streamline operations from three regional centers to two, keeping the east and west regional centers, in Mechanicsville, Va. and Hopkins, Minn.

The company said the consolidation will reduce operating costs and drive sales growth with both current and prospective customers.

“The changes also take into consideration the company’s ongoing commitment to delivering excellent value, service and customer programs and offerings that meet the rapidly changing needs of its independent grocery store customers nationwide,” the company said in a release.

The Pleasant Prairie layoffs are part of a 200-employee reduction among the independent business regional teams. Those impacted will have the opportunity to apply for other positions in the company.
