Summerfest Foundation to close summer with two free concerts

Summerfest Foundation, Inc. will carry on its live music offerings this month with two free community concerts.

The concerts will be held the evenings of Thursday, Sept. 17, and Thursday, Sept. 24.

While the first concert will feature a jazz theme with a performance by The Mitch Shiner Vibes Quartet, the second show will be flavored by Indie music as The Helio Sequence takes the stage with special guest Canopies.

Two of the acts slated to perform have local ties. Mitch Shiner, of The Mitch Shiner Vibes Quartet, hails from Milwaukee and specializes in percussion. Canopies is a Milwaukee band that adds flair to its pieces with synth-pp and psychedelic sounds.

The Helio Sequence, from Oregon, plays Indie rock and recently released its sixth album, “The 20-Song Game.” The band has been broadcast locally by 88NineRadio Milwaukee, which is helping organize its appearance in Milwaukee.

Each community concert presented by Summerfest Foundation will kick off at 7 p.m. with gates opening at 6:30 p.m. The concerts will run on the Johnson Controls World Sound Stage inside the Mid Gate of Henry Maier Festival Park, 200 N. Harbor Drive in Milwaukee.

The foundation will also offer attendees a special beverage promotion. Individuals age 21 and older who arrive between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. will be guaranteed a free beer.
