Sprecher wins five awards at U.S. Open Beer Championship

Organizations:

Glendale-based Sprecher Brewing Co. recently earned five medals at the 2014 U.S. Open Beer Championship.

The brewery took home two gold, two silver and one bronze, tying for fourth place overall among 272 breweries with more than 3,000 entries. It was the only Wisconsin brewery in the top 10.

The gold medals went to Sprecher’s Irish Stout and Shakparo beers; the silver medalists were its Summer Pils and Root Beer; and the bronze was awarded to Beyond Braggot.

“We’ve done well in competitions this year, and I’m pleased about the recognition we’ve received,” said Randy Sprecher, chief executive officer and founder. “With the increase we’ve had in production it’s hard to make consistently good beer. However, our brewmaster keeps producing excellent beer, both in quality and taste. I’d also like to congratulate the other Wisconsin breweries that won awards in this competition. Well deserved.”

Green Bay’s Stillmank Brewing and Badger State Brewing, Middleton’s Capital Brewery, Stevens Point Brewery and Sheboygan’s 3 Sheeps Brewing also took home medals.
