Skywalk Pharmacy holds month-long bone marrow donor drive

In recognition of National Bone Marrow Awareness Month, Skywalk Pharmacy’s New Berlin location is hosting a month-long bone marrow donor drive in partnership with Delete Blood Cancer DKMS.

Interested participants can stop by the pharmacy, 4855 S. Moorland Road, on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. (excluding holidays) to learn more and to register as potential donors. Additionally, an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 17 at 8:30 a.m.

Skywalk Pharmacy volunteers will be onsite to help participants fill out the registration form and swab the inside of their mouths to determine if they are a match for a patient in need.  Registration takes less than five minutes. Individuals between the ages of 18 – 55 in good health are eligible to participate.

Anyone who cannot attend the drive can register online at DeleteBloodCancer.org.

Delete Blood Cancer DKMS is a global organization with the mission to grow the number of suitable bone marrow and blood stem cell donors for patients in need. With more than 4.5 million registered bone marrow donors worldwide, Delete Blood Cancer is part of the world’s largest network of donor centers.

Blood cancer is the third leading cause of all cancer deaths in the U.S. and kills more children in the U.S. than any other disease. Nearly 14,000 people every year need a bone marrow transplant from an unrelated donor, but less than half will get one.
