Silicon Pastures to host angel investing series

Investor group aims to expand membership

Wauwatosa-based angel investor group Silicon Pastures LLC has launched a new event series aimed at training new angel investors.

Investors and guests at a recent Silicon Pastures meeting at The Milwaukee Club.

The classes will be held Dec. 18 and Feb. 13, May 15 and July 17, 2019. Each will hone in on a different angel investing topic.

At the free Dec. 18 lunch class, “Angel Education Lunch Session: Why IP Matters for Angel Investors,” Joe Miotke will go over the importance of patents to angel investors. Miotke is a patent attorney and member of Silicon Pastures. It will begin at 11:45 a.m. at DeWitt Ross & Stevens, 12845 Bishops Drive in Brookfield.

Angel investors are typically high net worth individuals who make equity investments in startup and early-stage companies. Silicon Pastures members meet monthly to hear entrepreneur pitches, conduct due diligence, and decide whether to invest in potential deals together.

Silicon Pastures is hosting the event series to bring new and more diverse members to its group, said Teresa Esser, managing director at Silicon Pastures. And angel investing requires a lot of training.

“We need to build our network. We have a goal of doubling the network or even more in 2019, and we need to reach out to a wider group,” she said. “The industries have changed, so there are people that are pitching us on artificial intelligence – do we have enough people in our group who understand artificial intelligence to be smart?”
