Southeastern Wisconsin is blessed to have the service and dedication of thousands of caring nurses.
Many of those nurses have been trained by Sharron Coffie, who also plays the roles of mentor and community heart healthy liaison for the region’s black community.
Coffie is an advanced practice nurse who is Six Sigma certified with 28 years of progressive experience with Froedtert Hospital.
Her resume of clinical experience includes cardiac, telemetry, thoracic surgery, open heart step down, burn intensive care, surgical/medical intensive care, general surgical, general medical, minor pediatrics, acute pulmonary, women’s surgical services and oncology.
As a clinical nurse specialist, Coffie spends countless hours teaching her patients how to mange their heart failure condition by giving them the tools they need to care for themselves at home. Coffie goes the extra mile by following up with her patients after they leave the hospital to ensure they are safe, healthy and know how to care for themselves.
“Sharron volunteers countless hours with local organizations and at her church, engaging in activities that promote health and wellness. She recently spent a Saturday at a local grocery store teaching people how to shop for and eat a heart healthy diet,” said Kristi Opper, R.N., one of Coffie’s peers.
As a member of the American Heart Association (AHA) Health Equity Board, Coffie endlessly demonstrates her passion and commitment to positive heart health outcomes among African Americans in the region. She also is a board member of the Milwaukee Black Nurses Association, where she recruits nurses to assist with blood pressure screenings at local health and wellness fairs hosted by the AHA.
Coffie was nominated to be a Health Care Hero by Yvonne Brodsky, manager of diversity and inclusion at Froedtert Health.
