Sendik’s creates online shopping platform

Sendik’s Food Markets, based in Whitefish Bay, has developed a virtual shopping experience through which customers can select and pay for groceries online and pick them up at a store.

Sendik’s Express, announced today, is accessible through Sendik’s website and aims to give customers a more convenient grocery shopping option, according to the Balistreri-owned retailer.Grocery shopping-142783969-Shutterstock.jpg

“With families more and more crunched for time, Sendik’s Express helps make our customers’ lives a bit easier,” Chris Houser, Sendik’s director of e-commerce, said in a press release. “With the ability to shop anytime, from anywhere, they can get back to spending more time with family and friends.”

The new online platform contains more than 40,000 grocery items, nearly everything that can be found in stores. Site features include an organized listing of products, multiple images for each grocery product, nutritional facts, a search engine and weekly specials.

Sendik’s Express also allows consumers to devise and save shopping and favorites lists.

The launch of the online service involves seven Sendik’s locations – Franklin, Germantown, Grafton, Mequon, New Berlin, Wauwatosa and Whitefish Bay. Once a consumer completes their virtual order and pays for it with a credit card or debit card online, the retailer’s personal shoppers fill the order firsthand. The store calls a consumer if its personal shoppers have a question about their order or need to make a substitution. The customer can then call or text upon their arrival in the store parking lot, at which point their groceries are loaded into their car at an assigned parking spot.

Sendik’s Express customers can pick up their groceries in store between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. on weekdays and between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekends. Customers can designate their pick-up time as they place their order, which must be done at least four hours in advance of pick up.

The virtual service is available for a $5.95 order fee. No minimum purchase order is required.
