Another new distribution center is planned for Seattle-based Amazon.com next to the 1.1-million-square-foot distribution center that is being built for the company in Kenosha.
New York-based private equity firm KTR Capital Partners recently purchased 158 acres of land northeast of I-94 and 38th Street from Madison-based Next/Partners Inc. for $17.5 million. KTR recently began construction work on that site to build a 1.1-million-square-foot distribution center for Amazon, which would have up to 1,000 full-time employees at the facility
And now KTR has submitted plans for a 500,000-square-foot building for Amazon, which will be built just east of the 1.1-million-square-foot building, said Zohrab Khaligian, community development specialist for the city of Kenosha. Amazon plans to have 575 full and part time employees in the 500,000-square-foot building, he said. Therefore total Amazon employment in Kenosha could reach 1,575 at the two facilities.
The two buildings will be connected by a skywalk, Khaligian said. Amazon hopes to have both buildings completed by the end of 2014, he said.
The city of Kensoha is providing $18.2 million in tax incremental financing (TIF) for the Amazon development.
