S.C. Johnson to cut hundreds of jobs in Racine

Racine-based S.C. Johnson & Son Inc. is cutting hundreds of jobs in the Racine area as part of a company-wide restructuring.

S.C. Johnson spokesperson Jam Stewart confirmed a Racine Journal Times report that up to 400 Racine area jobs could be eliminated.

While Stewart was able to confirm the Racine Journal Times report, no further information is being disclosed by the company at this time.

The Racine Journal Times reported that in October, S.C. Johnson announced it was about to begin six months of planning to restructure the company worldwide. That restructuring was expected to cut an estimated 100 to 200 jobs, which would have been about 3 to 6 percent of the company’s Racine area workforce of about 3,500. The new numbers would mean S.C. Johnson job losses in the Racine area of roughly 8.5 percent to 11.5 percent.

The report says some specific position cuts will be made known to employees Tuesday and that cuts would likely come from every function of the business.

S.C. Johnson manufactures several brand name household products, including Windex, Glade, Off!, Raid, Pledge and Scrubbing Bubbles. The company is privately held by members of the Johnson family.
