Red Hot Chili Peppers, P!ink to headline Summerfest 2017

First Marcus Amphitheater shows announced for 50th anniversary of festival

People will surely be “standing in line to see the show” on opening night of Summerfest 2017, as the Red Hot Chili Peppers will kick off the 50th anniversary edition of the annual festival on Milwaukee’s lakefront.

Milwaukee World Festival Inc. announced this morning the iconic rock band will play the Marcus Amphitheater on Wednesday, June 28, the opening night of the festival’s 11-day run.

Red Hot Chili Peppers, formed in 1983, is one of the best-selling bands of all time, with more than 60 million records sold worldwide, five multi-platinum LPs, 16 Grammy nominations and six Grammy awards. It was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. The group, the membership of which has changed over time, has recorded many popular tracks across the years, including “Under the Bridge,” “Give it Away” and “Scar Tissue.” Chili Peppers’ most recent album, “The Getaway” was released in June.

Summerfest also announced today that pop rebel P!nk will headline the Marcus Amphitheater on July 2.

P!nk, who released her debut solo album in 2000, has released top hits including “Lady Marmalade,” “There You Go” and “Don’t Let Me Get Me.” P!nk, aka Alecia Moore, also has sold more than 60 million albums worldwide. She has three Grammy awards, three Billboard Music Awards and six MTV Video Music Awards. P!nk and Kenny Chesney’s duet, “Setting the World on Fire,” shot to No. 1 on the Billboard Country Songs chart.

It has been more than 10 years since either Chili Peppers or P!nk played Summerfest. It will be P!nk’s first North American performance since 2014.

Tickets for P!nk will be sold through Ticketmaster beginning Friday, Nov. 18 at 10 a.m. and tickets for the Red Hot Chili Peppers will go on sale on Nov. 18 at noon. Fans who sign up for Summerfest emails of follow the festival on social media will be given pre-sale information.

Summerfest 2017 will run from June 28 to July 2 and July 4 to July 9 from noon to midnight. It will be closed on July 3. The World’s Largest Music Festival annually hosts more than 800 acts on 11 stages in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward.
