Real Estate Profile: Jay Campbell

president, Campbell Construction

Title: President
Company: Campbell Construction
Education: Waterford Union High School and the School of Hard Knocks.
Family: Wife, Gail; daughters, Brooke (12) and Brianna (7)
City of Residence: East Troy
What are you working on? "Right now we are working on a handful of projects. An office build out for Wisconsin Donor Network, which is a division of Froedert Hospital; a depot renovation for Schwan’s Foods in Round Lake Beach, Ill.; interior renovations to the Riverfront Plaza Building on Old World Third Street in downtown Milwaukee; plus a handful of smaller service-style projects. We are gearing up and getting ready to start a new Culver’s Restaurant in Milwaukee, a five-story story mixed-use building in Milwaukee, a seven-story building renovation in the Third Ward and a three-story renovation project on the Pabst Development site with Bando Chmura Properties."
How does the market look to you? "Things are looking good for us. We have more work under contract then we hope to do in all of ’08. The market is tricky right now, but we get involved in such a wide variety of projects that is has not affected us. We are looking to add to both the field and office staff in ’08. Also, we are simply very blessed to have relationships with many people who still have work going on."
What was the best deal you’ve ever been involved in? "Marrying my wife. I got way more then I bargained for, but it has all been worth it."
What was the funniest moment of your career? "There are really too many to mention, I like to have fun and not be too serious. Most recently when I went to a meeting for the Wisconsin Donor Network project and the person running the project on the owner’s end introduced himself as Jay Campbell, and his name really is the same as mine. That has made for some laughs and fun on the project, plus that same project has a sleeping room in an office setting, that has brought up some interesting joking around during the project meetings."
