State Rep. Cory Mason (D-Racine) has introduced legislation that would raise the state’s minimum wage by 35 cents per hour and index it to the rate of inflation going forward.
"Each year the cost of gas goes up, the cost of healthcare goes up, and the cost of groceries go up, but the typical family income stays the same," said Mason. "Raising the minimum wage is a small and long overdue step we can take to help lift working families out of poverty."
Under the bill, the rate would rise from $7.25 per hour to $7.60 per hour. It would also remove the current ban on local wage requirements.
