How does the market look to you? "We are at an inflection point in the M&A market in terms of activity (still strong, but growing concern by buyers and their sources of debt financing). Bottom line – we just may be able to talk ourselves into a recession."
What are you working on now? "PS Capital Partners invested in two companies in 2007. We are currently working on add-ons for two of our companies."
What was the best deal you’ve been involved in? "Over the years, I have been very fortunate to have invested in several companies that have been extremely rewarding in terms of investor returns and working with great people. However, the best deal was forming PS Capital Partners with Paul Sweeney in 2001. Through PS Capital Partners, Paul and I are having fun as we continue to build equity value for our investors and ourselves."
What was the funniest or most interesting moment of your career? "One of the more interesting times (and, I would add, fun) was when Paul Sweeney and I started PS Capital Partners and we decided to devote a day to fine-tune our strategic plan, while riding the coasters at Six Flags Great America. We decided what better way to get used to thrills of the ups and downs that come with managing our own private equity investing firm than being seated next to each other on the Raging Bull. The picture from our strategic planning day is still on display in our office, as it seems to help us keep everything in perspective."
