"The inspiration (for the book) came years ago when I was the executive chef onboard the SS Norway, the largest cruise ship at the time," Gebauer said. "Often times the passengers asked questions related to my culinary career and what is was like to be a
chef." According to Gebauer, individuals in the profession were also seeking his insight and advice to begin their own careers. Gebaurer grew up in Germany, and later landed an apprenticeship in a boutique hotel at the age of 15, he later worked in luxury cruise lines, and earned chef positions in Hong Kong, the Middle East, Germany and the Carribean.  He is a certified German master Chef.
