Screenwriters Forum launches contest
The Wisconsin Screenwriters Forum has launched its second annual WSF Screenwriting Experience contest. Entries for the contest are now being accepted. Submissions will be judged using the approach Hollywood studios, producers, agents, managers and talent use with traditional screenplays. Greg DePaul, writer of hit movies Bride Wars and Saving Silverman will be the celebrity judge and read the final three screenplays and pick the Grand Prize winner. The grand prize winner will receive an all expenses paid trip to Los Angeles, Calif. For the annual screenwriting Expo in October 2011. The Four Runner-up screenwriters will receive a Screenwriting Expo Basic Pass, a year’s subscription to Creative Screenwriting magazine, and invaluable feedback. 
The deadline for entry is Friday, Oct. 15 and entries must be feature length submissions between 80 and 130 pages in PDF format and be written in industry format, preferably using screenwriting software. Visit the Wisconsin Screenwriters Forum website for details: www.wiscreenwritersforum.org

Milwaukee wine festival to be held this weekend

Harris Bank in partnership with inPLAY EVENTS will host the 2010 Milwaukee Wine Festival Friday, Aug. 20 and Saturday Aug. 21 on the grounds of the Milwaukee Art Museum. 
"Anyone from the novice wine consumer to the experienced wine connoisseur can expand their knowledge and develop a new appreciation for wine while enjoying the relaxed setting on Milwaukee’s Lakefront," said Scott Janess, event organizer from inPLAY EVENTS.
The event will feature more than 200 wines from around the world and food from local restaurants include Café Calatrava, the Capital Grille, Mason Street Grill, Milwaukee Chop House, and Kil@wat.
The Belgian Beer Café, a beer garden experience presented by Stella Artois will also present a sampling of Stella Artois, Leffe and Hoegaarden beers. Live music, cooking demonstrations and wine seminars will also take place.
Adult Wine Tasting Tickets are $25 in advance and $35 at the gate.  Advance tickets can be purchased through Thursday, August 19th.  This ticket price includes festival admission, a souvenir wine glass, 10 tasting tickets, a festival program, and access to food,wine demonstrations and musical entertainment.  Designated Driver tickets are $10 in advance or at the gate.  Tickets can be purchased online at www.milwaukeewinefestival.com 

Nominees needed for annual Touching Lives Award
Milwaukee-based Horizon Home Care & Hospice is now accepting nominations for the 2011 Touching Lives Award. The award honors inividuals who have made a lasting impact on improving the lives of others through their actions. Past winners have included former Wisconsin First Lady Sue Ann Thompson, chief executive officer of Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital, Leo Brideau and chief executive officer of Froedtert hospital Bill Petasnick. Physicians, hospice and palliative care nurses have also been honored with the award. This is the first time since its inception in 2007, that Horizon has opened the nominations up to the public. Live at the Lakefront celebrates its third season

The Rotary Club of Milwaukee and Discovery World-Pier Wisconsin recently announced the lineup for its third season of Live @ the Lakefront.  The free concert series runs every Wednesday night through Wednesday, September 1 in the outdoor Rotary Amphitheater at Discovery World, Pier Wisconsin, 500 North Harbor Drive.
“It’s incredible to be presenting our third season of LIVE @ the Lakefront,” said Dan Nelson, Jr., co-chairman of Rotary’s Maritime Committee.  “The Rotary Club of Milwaukee is proud to partner with Discovery World and Bartolotta’s to bring this original music series back to one of the most beautiful and relaxing venues in Milwaukee.  The outdoor location of the Rotary Amphitheater literally right on the
water could not be better suited for a free summer concert series. Milwaukee has a strong original music heritage, and a lakefront that doesn’t have enough opportunities to be appreciated. With the LIVE @ the Lakefront concert series, we are grateful we can create more free access to both for all Milwaukeeans.”
The nine week concert series will feature original jazz, salsa, reggae, and bluegrass music and catered food and beverages for purchase from The Bartolotta Restaurant Group. Discounted parking is available for $5 in the Discovery World garage and boaters can also dock next to Lakeshore State Park. The concert series will be held rain or shine.

  • August 25: Blueheels
  • September 1: The Juli Wood Quartet -classic jazz
