Orthopaedic Associates planning new clinic at Brookfield Square Mall

Would be built near new conference center, Movie Tavern

Orthopaedic Associates of Wisconsin is planning to construct an approximately 18,600-square-foot orthopedic medical clinic at Brookfield Square Mall, according to documents filed with the city.

The orthopedic surgical group, which has its main facility located in the town of Delafield, would put up the new two-story clinic at 117 S. Moorland Road, near the northwest corner of Brookfield Square Drive and South Moorland Road. The site is located north of the new Brookfield Conference Center, west of the Outback Steakhouse and south of Marcus Theatres’ new Movie Tavern, which opened in October.

The first floor would include exam rooms, cast rooms, support staff spaces and diagnostic x-ray and MRI services. The second floor would have pre- and post-recovery bays, a pain management procedure room, a central working area for nurses and physicians, physical therapy and additional staff support area.

“As an organization we have been reviewing possible locations for the better part of the last year in and around the Waukesha area,” Mark Smith, OAW chief administrative officer, wrote in a letter to city officials. “After much exploration and deliberation we are confident we have chosen the correct location strategically for the development of our enterprise.”

Smith later added OAW is looking to expand its presence with a new medical facility “so we can continue to offer our patients with the latest in technological and medical advancements in the ideal patient setting. We know we can accomplish this on the proposed site.”

Brookfield’s Plan Commission is scheduled to consider building, site and operational plans on the project when it meets Monday evening. The approvals will then head to the Common Council for final approval on Tuesday, Jan. 21, said Dan Ertl, Brookfield director of community development.

OAW has 17 orthopedic surgeons on staff, who are all equal partners in the ownership of the corporation. It also employs two physiatrists, who specialize in pain management, as well as three anesthesiologists and a sports-medicine physician. Outside of its providers, OAW has another 100-plus employees who serve in roles such as nursing, medical assistants, x-ray technicians, therapists, management and administrative support.
