Notable Sages Over 65: Peggy Troy

Class of 2024

Under the leadership of Peggy Troy, Children’s Wisconsin expanded its services to more than 50 locations throughout Wisconsin, adding services like mental and behavioral health and the Herma Heart Institute.

Troy joined Children’s as a pediatric nurse in 1975 and worked her way up the ranks to take over as president and CEO in 2009. Children’s announced in October that Troy will retire at the end of 2024.

“Peggy’s leadership has been transformative, not just to Children’s Wisconsin and its more than 7,000 employees and providers, but to children’s health in general,” said Patrick Hammes, Children’s Wisconsin board chair. “For the past 15 years, children in Wisconsin have benefited from a Children’s with Peggy at the helm.”

“She recognized early on that children’s health care must go beyond physical needs,” said Dr. Rainer Gedeit, chief medical officer at Children’s Wisconsin. “By spearheading efforts to increase mental and behavioral health, dental care, lead treatment and vaccinations in our system, and bringing those services into the community where our patients live, Peggy has improved the health of children all over Wisconsin.”
