The MRD Group, based in Milwaukee, began in 1975 when Gerald Blomberg created Midwest Rail and Dismantling to remove railroad track lines and perform demolition operations for the Milwaukee Road railroad company.
As the company grew, Blomberg realized it would need to diversify in order to remain competitive. Over the next 20 years, Blomberg would reinvest most of the company’s revenue back into the company for machinery, personnel, recycling site compounds and office spaces while adding an asbestos and lead abatement group, a construction division, a concrete and asphalt crushing operation, and a 50% ownership stake in Knapp Railroad Builders. These are the divisions of what is now known as The MRD Group.
Today, Blomberg’s focus is on specialized demolitions, like complex high-rise structures, complete shopping mall centers, baseball stadiums, paper mills, power plants, foundries and numerous other industrial and commercial centers as well as city, county and state schools and office buildings.
